WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao recorded a significant increase in fatal traffic accidents during 2025, according to the 2025 State of Law Enforcement report released by the Council for Law Enforcement.
The report states that the total number of traffic accidents on the island increased by 10 percent compared to 2024. At the same time, the number of traffic fatalities rose by 40 percent.
According to the figures included in the report, Curaçao registered 14 traffic deaths in 2025, compared to 10 in 2024.
Speeding was identified as one of the main contributing factors. Four of the fourteen fatal accidents were directly linked to excessive speed.
The Council warned that the rising number of deadly accidents highlights the urgent need for stronger traffic enforcement and continued efforts to combat dangerous driving behavior.
The report also renewed calls for investments in enforcement technology, including traffic camera systems, while stressing that the necessary legal framework must first be updated to allow for effective and lawful use of such technologies.
Charts included in the report show that Curaçao registered 11,823 traffic accidents during 2025, the highest number recorded in the five-year overview presented by the Council.
