Curaçao Promotes Emergency Preparedness Through Interactive “Ami Ta Prepará Expo”

Local, | By Press release October 21, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Residents of all ages gathered at Brion Square on Saturday, October 17, 2026, for the “Ami Ta Prepará Expo,” an interactive event designed to help individuals and families better prepare for emergencies, disasters, and other crisis situations.

Throughout the afternoon and evening, visitors had the opportunity to learn practical emergency preparedness skills in a relaxed and engaging environment. The event emphasized the importance of personal responsibility and community cooperation in responding to unexpected situations.

The expo was organized by the Directorate of Risk Management and Disaster Policy (DRR), in collaboration with several partner organizations, as part of the broader “Ami Ta Prepará” public awareness campaign. The initiative provides Curaçao residents with information and practical guidance on how to take the necessary steps to prepare for emergencies.

During the event, visitors learned about the responsibilities and activities of various emergency services, rescue organizations, and government agencies. Participating organizations included different units of the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Organization (CRBo), their liaison officers, and several nongovernmental organizations involved in crisis management.

Visitors also received practical advice on measures they can take at home to protect themselves and their families during emergencies.

The central message of the event was that emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility. When individuals are better prepared, their households become more resilient, allowing emergency responders to concentrate their resources on assisting the most vulnerable members of society.

This year's expo also introduced the first edition of the “Ami Ta Prepará Scavenger Hunt,” an islandwide competition designed to combine emergency preparedness education with teamwork and problem-solving.

Teams registered in advance and, beginning at noon on Saturday, traveled by car across Curaçao to complete challenges and assignments related to risks, emergencies, and crisis situations.

After completing the activities, participants gathered at Brion Square for the awards ceremony. The winning team received a cash prize of XCG 2,500, sponsored by Banco di Caribe.

The government of Curaçao expressed its appreciation to the members of the crisis management organization, liaison officers, partner organizations, sponsors, employees, and volunteers who contributed to the event.

Special thanks were also extended to residents who attended the expo and the teams that participated in the scavenger hunt.

According to the government, the positive response from participants provides encouragement to continue raising public awareness and strengthening emergency preparedness throughout Curaçao.

The “Ami Ta Prepará” initiative aims to ensure that residents understand the importance of taking preventive measures before emergencies occur, helping to create a safer and more resilient community.
