WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is preparing to host the Velas Curaçao Rendez-Vous 2026, a major maritime event that will take place from May 2 to May 8 in the Otrobanda district.
The event will bring a fleet of international tall ships—large naval training vessels—from countries including Spain, Peru, Colombia, and Uruguay. The ships are scheduled to enter the Annabaai on May 2 and will remain docked along the Otrobanda waterfront throughout the week.
Visitors will have the opportunity to board and explore the vessels free of charge during designated opening hours, offering a rare chance to experience these historic training ships up close.
In addition to the tall ships, a “Defence Village” will be set up, showcasing military equipment and operations. Vessels from the Royal Netherlands Navy and the coast guard will also be present as part of the event.
A full program of activities is planned on the waterfront and at the Brionplein, including performances by local and international artists. On Sunday, the public will be able to attend free concerts as part of the festivities.
Special arrangements have also been made for schools, allowing students to visit the ships during scheduled sessions in early May.
Organizers expect strong public interest, similar to previous editions of the event, which have attracted large crowds and contributed to both tourism and community engagement on the island.
