WILLEMSTAD – As CITRO celebrates its 50th anniversary, Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) has announced a financial contribution to support the organization's continued mission and its longstanding role in safeguarding lives at sea.
In a statement issued on June 1, CPA recognized CITRO's five decades of service to the maritime community and highlighted the organization's critical contribution to maritime safety around Curaçao.
According to CPA, the contribution is intended to support the further development of CITRO's operations and help ensure the continuity of its emergency response capabilities.
For 50 years, CITRO's volunteers have played an essential role in responding to maritime emergencies, assisting vessels in distress, coordinating rescue efforts, and supporting the island's broader maritime community.
CPA emphasized that CITRO's work in protecting lives at sea and supporting maritime operations remains invaluable to Curaçao and all those who depend on the island's maritime infrastructure.
The port authority also called on other organizations within the maritime sector to continue supporting CITRO and to consider making annual contributions to help sustain its activities.
"Many of us rely on CITRO's preparedness and response capabilities as an integral part of Curaçao's maritime safety network," CPA said in its statement.
The authority noted that maintaining these essential services depends on continued support and engagement from the wider maritime community, including businesses and organizations that benefit from a safe and secure maritime environment.
CITRO, which operates largely through the dedication of volunteers, has become one of Curaçao's most respected maritime organizations. Over the years, it has assisted countless mariners, fishermen, recreational boaters, and commercial vessels facing emergencies in local waters.
