WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Police Force (KPC) is urging the public to respect police barriers at crime scenes and other incidents, warning that people continue to ignore the yellow-and-black tape used to secure restricted areas.
According to police, these barriers are not placed unnecessarily. They are essential for protecting evidence, allowing investigators to carry out their work undisturbed and ensuring the safety of members of the public.
Authorities say people still too often cross or disregard police tape when an area has been cordoned off. Doing so can interfere with an investigation and potentially contaminate or destroy important evidence.
Police are also asking motorists and residents to immediately follow instructions when roads are closed or traffic is diverted. This applies to everyone, including people who live in or near the affected area.
The KPC stressed that officers stationed at roadblocks and restricted areas should not be unnecessarily delayed with questions. Their priority is to secure the scene, control access and ensure that emergency services can reach the location as quickly as possible.
Members of the public are therefore being asked to keep their distance, respect established barriers and follow police instructions at all times.
According to the police, greater cooperation from the public will help emergency personnel and investigators perform their work safely and efficiently while preventing investigations from being disrupted.
