WILLEMSTAD – The Green Wave environmental movement is expanding its reach in Curaçao, with the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) now exploring ways to support the initiative and being invited to participate in World Cleanup Day Curaçao 2026.
Representatives of Curaçao Clean Up met on Tuesday with acting Chief Commissioner of Police Elbert Sambo to discuss a possible contribution by the police force to the Green Wave movement.
During the meeting, the organization and Sambo exchanged ideas on how KPC could support efforts aimed at promoting a cleaner Curaçao and greater environmental awareness within the community.
The police force was also formally invited to participate in World Cleanup Day Curaçao 2026, when volunteers and organizations across the island will join efforts to remove waste and draw attention to the problem of littering.
Curaçao Clean Up said it was pleased with the discussions and expressed confidence that the Curaçao Police Force is willing to provide the necessary support to the initiative.
As a symbolic gesture marking the police force's involvement with Green Wave, Sambo was presented with a Green Wave shirt.
Curaçao Clean Up has been approaching government institutions and other organizations as it seeks to broaden participation in Green Wave and encourage different sectors of the community to contribute to keeping the island clean.
