Curaçao Parliament Receives Final Annual Treaty Report as Netherlands Moves to Digital System

Local, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent April 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Parliament has received its final annual report on the parliamentary approval of treaties, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands transitions to a fully digital information system.

The change was outlined in a letter submitted to Parliament via the Governor, stating that lawmakers will now be informed through online platforms such as the Verdragenbank and the legislative calendar. According to the ministry, these systems provide more timely and up-to-date information, making the traditional annual report unnecessary.

The document delivered to Parliament is the 45th and final edition of the report, with a reference date of January 1, 2026. It provides an overview of treaties that the Kingdom of the Netherlands may join but which have not yet been approved by Parliament.

According to the report, a total of 52 treaties are expected to be submitted for parliamentary approval during 2026. In addition, 37 treaties are scheduled for consideration at a later stage, while participation in 24 treaties is currently deemed undesirable under existing conditions.

The report also includes agreements that may apply to Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten.

Parliament has been urged to give priority to the treaties expected to be submitted in the near term, ensuring timely review and approval where necessary.

The shift to digital reporting marks a broader move toward modernization in how legislative information is shared within the Kingdom, reflecting a preference for real-time access over periodic summaries.
