WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Parliament held 19 public meetings, 22 Central Committee meetings and 14 question-hour sessions during the 2025-2026 parliamentary year, according to statistics presented Monday during the official opening of the new 2026-2027 parliamentary year.
The overview provides a snapshot of parliamentary activity during the previous year, including meetings, committee work, motions and proposed legislation. Parliament also held five ceremonial meetings.
Committee activity varied considerably. The Committee for Kingdom Affairs, Interparliamentary Relations and Foreign Relations was among the most active, meeting 15 times. The Committee for Education, Science, Culture and Sports held 11 meetings, while the Temporary Housing Committee met nine times.
The Committee for Social Development, Labor and Welfare met five times. The committees dealing with Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning and Economic Development each met four times, while the Finance Committee met three times.
Health, Environment and Nature and the Justice Committee each held two meetings. The Committee for Administration, Planning and Services met once, while the Committee for the Working Procedures of Parliament recorded no meetings during the parliamentary year.
The statistics also show an even split in the outcome of motions. A total of 22 motions were considered, of which 11 were adopted and 11 rejected. Of the adopted motions, five passed by majority vote and six by general consent, according to the parliamentary overview.
Parliament also recorded 10 draft legislative proposals during the year. Five were submitted by the government, while the other five were parliamentary initiative bills, meaning members of Parliament themselves accounted for half of the legislative proposals recorded in the overview.
The document further records 16 legislative deliberations: seven in the Central Committee and nine during public meetings.
