Local, Politics, | By Correspondent October 14, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Parliament's Committee for Kingdom Affairs, Interparliamentary Relations and Foreign Relations met with Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas on Tuesday, October 13, to discuss the possible extension of the Landspakket (economic) reform agreement and Curaçao's participation in the upcoming Kingdom Summit.

The meeting focused on developments surrounding the Landspakket, the reform framework established between Curaçao and the Netherlands to address structural challenges in public administration, financial management and economic development.

During the discussions, Prime Minister Pisas provided committee members with a brief explanation of several relevant aspects of the agreement and its possible continuation.

According to the parliamentary announcement, the government will provide Parliament with more extensive and detailed information during a separate parliamentary meeting.

The possible extension of the Landspakket is an important issue in relations between Curaçao and the Netherlands. The agreement was introduced as part of the financial assistance arrangements established during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently became a framework for reforms involving government operations, economic resilience and institutional development.

The discussions come as Curaçao and the Netherlands continue evaluating the implementation of reforms and the future of their cooperation under the agreement.

In addition to the Landspakket, the committee discussed Curaçao's participation in the Kingdom Summit, an initiative intended to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among the countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The committee also received information from the Petit Comité concerning the proposed dispute settlement arrangement, known in Dutch as the Geschillenregeling.

The dispute settlement mechanism has long been a subject of discussion within the Kingdom, particularly regarding how disagreements between the autonomous countries and the Kingdom government should be addressed.

Another item on the agenda was preparation for the upcoming Tripartite meeting, scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The meeting will take place at Curaçao Parliament and will bring together parliamentary representatives as part of the continuing interparliamentary dialogue within the Kingdom.

The October 13 committee meeting served as a preparatory discussion ahead of these developments, with further parliamentary consideration expected concerning the future of the Landspakket and Curaçao's position in Kingdom relations.

No final decision on extending the Landspakket was announced following Tuesday's meeting.
