WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s Traffic and Transport Service (UOVV), in cooperation with the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), will launch new Certificate A and Certificate B training courses for people seeking to enter or advance within the public transportation sector.
The courses will run from October 19, 2026, through May 12, 2027, and are intended to professionalize the sector while creating a structured pathway for both new drivers and people already working in passenger transportation.
Certificate A is designed primarily for people applying for the first time to transport passengers for payment. Successful participants will be prepared to work as auxiliary drivers.
Applicants for Certificate A must be between 25 and 62 years old, have Dutch nationality and be registered in Curaçao. The program is specifically intended for applicants who do not have a diploma equivalent to MAVO/VSBO TKL or a higher educational qualification.
Applicants are also expected to have a diploma from Vereniging Veilig Verkeer (VVV). People without the VVV diploma may still register, but UOVV said that if the course reaches its maximum capacity, priority will be given to applicants who already possess the qualification.
Certificate B is aimed at people already working in the public transportation sector who want to continue their professional development and eventually become a permit holder.
Applicants for Certificate B must be between 25 and 62, have Dutch nationality and be registered in Curaçao. They must have at least a MAVO/VSBO TKL-equivalent diploma, a VVV diploma and an auxiliary driver's card, known as an HB card.
Registration for both programs opens September 14 and closes September 21, 2026, at midnight.
The Certificate A course costs XCG 675, while Certificate B costs XCG 750. Participants selected for the programs will be able to pay the course fee in two installments, but the full amount must be paid by October 12.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (OWCS) is involved in ensuring the quality of the program. According to the government, the certificates will be recognized and accredited in accordance with applicable educational standards.
CTB is also supporting the initiative as part of efforts to further professionalize Curaçao's public transportation sector. Its contribution has focused on the program's content and financing to help keep participation costs affordable.
