WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao will need to actively compete for European Union funding by submitting strong project proposals aligned with its national development strategy, as part of a new €425 million funding framework for Caribbean territories.
The EU has made clear that access to funds will not be automatic. Instead, islands must present high-quality projects that meet strict criteria on execution, sustainability, and impact.
Key sectors eligible for funding include climate resilience, digitalization, education, and economic diversification. Regional cooperation is also encouraged, with joint projects between islands seen as a priority.
Dutch authorities have indicated they will support Curaçao and other Caribbean territories in preparing and submitting applications, recognizing the complexity of EU funding processes.
