WILLEMSTAD – The Council of Ministers has approved the content of the “Position Paper Spatial Economic Strategy Curaçao 2040,” marking the next step toward developing a long-term vision for economic development, infrastructure and spatial planning on the island.
The document, prepared by the Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP), will serve as the foundation for further development of the strategy and a broad public consultation process with stakeholders.
The government said the strategy is intended to create a clear framework for determining where economic activities should be developed, what infrastructure is needed and how available urban space should be organized.
Following the consultation phase, a final strategy must be submitted again to the Council of Ministers. That final document must include an implementation agenda, timeline, governance structure, financial consequences and a monitoring framework.
The Spatial Economic Strategy 2040 forms part of the government's broader efforts to establish a sustainable long-term development vision for Curaçao.
