Curaçao Moves Forward with Air Services Agreement with Canada

Local, Politics, | By Correspondent June 1, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has taken another step toward expanding its international aviation network after the Council of Ministers approved the next phase of an air services agreement with Canada.

The Council agreed to instruct the Minister Plenipotentiary of Curaçao in The Hague to support the agreement during a meeting of the Kingdom Council of Ministers scheduled for May 29.

The proposed treaty would establish the legal framework governing air services between Curaçao and Canada, paving the way for increased cooperation in commercial aviation and potentially creating opportunities for additional passenger and cargo connections.

Government officials believe stronger aviation ties with Canada could benefit tourism, trade, and economic development.

Canada remains an important tourism market for the Caribbean, and improved air connectivity could make Curaçao more accessible to Canadian travelers while also facilitating business links between the two countries.

The agreement must still complete the required approval procedures before entering into force.

If finalized, the treaty would join a growing network of international aviation agreements that support Curaçao's position as a regional transportation hub.
