Curaçao More Accepting of Ethnic and Religious Diversity

Local, | By Correspondent July 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has become more accepting of ethnic and religious diversity over the past decade, according to the latest CBS Curaçao (Central Bureau of Statistics) publication on national identity, social acceptance and discrimination.

In 2015, 15.8 percent of respondents said they objected to having neighbors from another ethnic group or country. By 2025, that figure had fallen to 11 percent.

The same trend is visible in attitudes toward religion. In 2015, 13.5 percent objected to neighbors with a different religious background. In 2025, that percentage dropped to 7.8 percent.

More than 80 percent of the population now says it has no objection to neighbors from another ethnic or religious background.

CBS says the figures point to a clear increase in social acceptance within Curaçao’s society.
