WILLEMSTAD – International Nurses Day is being observed today, May 12, on Curaçao with activities honoring nurses and healthcare workers for their dedication and service to the community.
The international observance commemorates Florence Nightingale, widely recognized as the founder of modern nursing.
On Curaçao, the day is being marked with a special church service and a gesture of appreciation organized by healthcare labor union CBV for its members.
According to CBV president Annaliza Suares-Mathilda, the nursing profession is unique and requires enormous sacrifice and commitment.
She emphasized that nurses consistently place the patient first, often working under demanding circumstances while carrying major responsibilities within the healthcare system.
The union is calling for greater recognition and appreciation from both the government and society for nurses and other healthcare professionals, whom the organization describes as essential “frontliners.”
International Nurses Day is celebrated annually around the world to recognize the critical role nurses play in healthcare, public health, and patient care.
