WILLEMSTAD – A 36-year-old man from Curaçao has been extradited to Belgium to face prosecution in connection with a violent home invasion that took place in the Belgian city of Lommel. Belgian authorities suspect the man of involvement in a so-called “homejacking,” a form of robbery in which criminals target victims inside their homes.
According to reports in Dutch and Belgian media, the suspect had been living in Curaçao before being transferred to Belgium under an international extradition procedure. Belgian prosecutors are investigating his alleged role in a violent incident in Lommel, located in the Flemish province of Limburg.
The case centers on a home invasion during which victims were reportedly confronted and threatened inside their residence. Belgian authorities consider homejackings among the most serious forms of robbery because of the direct confrontation with occupants and the potential for violence.
The extradition highlights the ongoing judicial cooperation between countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and European law enforcement authorities. Through international agreements and mutual legal assistance treaties, suspects wanted for serious crimes can be transferred between jurisdictions to stand trial.
Belgian prosecutors have not publicly disclosed all details of the investigation, but local media report that the suspect is believed to have played a role in the planning or execution of the robbery. The case is expected to proceed before a Belgian court in the coming months.
The extradition comes as authorities across Europe continue to intensify efforts against organized criminal groups involved in violent robberies, drug trafficking, and cross-border crime. International cooperation has increasingly become a key tool in locating and apprehending suspects who move between different countries and territories.
No information has yet been released regarding the suspect’s legal defense or whether he has made any statements concerning the allegations.
If convicted, he could face significant prison time under Belgian law for offenses related to violent robbery and home invasion.
