WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao baseball will mark a historic moment today when the island’s Little League team takes on Japan at 4:00 p.m. in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. For the first time, the players will take the field at the Little League World Series with “Curaçao” displayed on their uniforms.
In previous editions of the international tournament, Curaçao’s representatives competed under the broader designation “Caribbean.” This year, however, the island’s identity will be prominently displayed as the team competes on the world stage.

The Curaçao squad consists of players from Liga Pariba, adding another chapter to the island’s long and successful baseball tradition.
Today’s matchup against Japan is expected to attract considerable attention on the island. The game will be broadcast on ESPN, while fans in Curaçao will also have an opportunity to watch the action together on a large screen at Wilhelminapark.
The appearance of Curaçao’s name on the uniform carries particular significance for an island that has produced numerous professional baseball players and has established an international reputation far beyond its small population.
With Curaçao and Japan meeting in Williamsport this afternoon, the young Liga Pariba players will not only be competing for victory but will also be representing the island under its own name for the first time at the tournament.
