WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is taking a major step toward building its artificial intelligence future, as the University of Curaçao Dr. Moises Da Costa Gomez has launched a six-day AI knowledge mission to Silicon Valley, bringing together business leaders, regulators and policymakers to study the world’s latest technological developments.

The mission, taking place from May 3 to May 8, is designed to give Curaçao direct exposure to global innovation in artificial intelligence and help translate those lessons into practical applications for the island.

The delegation includes captains of industry, supervisors, policymakers and professionals from different sectors, all traveling to what is widely regarded as the global center of technological innovation.

During the intensive six-day program, participants are meeting with leading technology companies and institutions to explore how AI is transforming industries and societies worldwide.

Key topics include digital infrastructure, the ethical and social impact of artificial intelligence, and the human dimension of rapidly evolving AI systems.

The initiative comes as Curaçao positions itself to develop a national AI strategy and strengthen its digital competitiveness in the region.

According to the university, the mission is not just about learning from global leaders, but about adapting those insights to Curaçao’s economic, educational and regulatory realities.

Following the mission, the university plans to launch a local knowledge platform aimed at sharing the findings and creating a structured space for continued dialogue, research and collaboration around AI.

The mission has received the backing of Curaçao’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Sithree van Heydoorn.

Van Heydoorn, who also serves as chairman of the National AI Strategy Taskforce for Curaçao, said the knowledge gained in Silicon Valley will directly contribute to the island’s efforts to build its own national AI framework.

The minister praised the university’s initiative and described the mission as an important investment in knowledge, cooperation and Curaçao’s future.

The AI mission reflects a growing recognition on the island that artificial intelligence will play an increasingly important role in economic development, education, governance and workforce transformation.

For Curaçao, the challenge now will be turning global AI insights into local opportunities.
