WILLEMSTAD – Trainees from the BAVPOL CAP, Politur, and Immigration programs participated in a series of specialized workshops during the week of October 19, 2026, aimed at strengthening their professional skills, ethical conduct, and ability to interact with different groups within society.
The workshops formed part of the integrity component of their training programs and addressed several important subjects, including generational differences in the workplace, professional integrity, and interacting with individuals with mild intellectual disabilities.

The sessions were designed to prepare participants for the responsibilities they will encounter in their future positions, particularly when dealing with members of the public and colleagues from different backgrounds.
Understanding Generational Differences in the Workplace
One of the workshops focused on generational management, helping participants understand how people from different age groups interact and work together.
The training emphasized the importance of recognizing differences in communication styles, expectations, and approaches to professional responsibilities.
Participants learned how to work effectively with colleagues of different generations while maintaining mutual respect and cooperation.
Such skills are particularly relevant in law enforcement and public service environments, where teamwork and effective communication are essential to daily operations.
Integrity and Professional Conduct
Another important workshop, titled "Regla ta Regla" (Rules Are Rules), focused on integrity and the importance of following established codes of conduct.
Participants examined the role of ethical behavior in carrying out their professional duties and the responsibility of public officials to act in accordance with applicable rules and standards.
The training highlighted the importance of maintaining professional integrity, making responsible decisions, and treating members of the public fairly.
By incorporating these subjects into the curriculum, the training programs aim to ensure that future officers and public service personnel understand the standards of conduct expected of them.
Working With People With Intellectual Disabilities
The third workshop addressed mild intellectual disabilities, known in Dutch as Licht Verstandelijke Beperking (LVB).
Participants received guidance on how to recognize and appropriately interact with individuals who may experience difficulties understanding information, communicating, or processing instructions.
The workshop emphasized empathy, patience, and professionalism when dealing with people with intellectual disabilities.
Participants learned the importance of adapting their communication and approach to the needs of the individual while ensuring respectful treatment.
This knowledge is especially relevant for personnel working in law enforcement, tourism policing, and immigration services, where interactions with individuals with different abilities and needs are part of their responsibilities.
Preparing Future Public Service Professionals
The workshops provided trainees with additional knowledge and practical insights intended to support their future professional duties.
By combining integrity training with communication skills and awareness of intellectual disabilities, the program seeks to prepare participants for the diverse situations they may encounter in their work.
The training also reinforces the importance of treating people with dignity, maintaining ethical standards, and demonstrating professionalism in interactions with the public.
For participants in the BAVPOL CAP, Politur, and Immigration programs, the workshops represent another step in their preparation for careers involving public safety, enforcement, and public service in Curaçao.
