WILLEMSTAD – The Government of Curaçao has taken an important step toward strengthening the island’s maritime future with the official establishment of the Programmatische Maritieme Tafel (PMT), a coordination platform bringing together government, port companies and private-sector partners to develop the Dok and Buskabaai areas.
The creation of the maritime platform is intended to align the efforts of key stakeholders and accelerate the development of Curaçao’s maritime sector. The initiative brings together organizations including CDM Holding, Buskabaai N.V., 2BAYS, Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) and the Curaçao Maritime Association (CMAR).
The focus of the collaboration is the transformation of the Dok–Buskabaai area into a stronger maritime and industrial hub. Plans include cleaning and dredging Buskabaai and reopening the bay for maritime traffic, with the aim of creating new economic opportunities while improving the ecological condition of the area.
According to stakeholders involved in the maritime development strategy, the Dok–Buskabaai zone is expected to play a central role in Curaçao’s future maritime economy, including ship repair, offshore support services, logistics and industrial activities.
The partnership is also intended to improve coordination between public entities and private companies involved in maritime development. CMAR has previously highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, port operators and maritime businesses to strengthen Curaçao’s position as a regional maritime center.
Supporters of the initiative say that the development of Buskabaai can contribute to economic diversification, attract international maritime companies and create specialized employment opportunities on the island.
The government and participating organizations congratulated CDM Holding, Buskabaai N.V., 2BAYS, CPA and CMAR for their involvement in what they describe as a strategic step toward a more sustainable and competitive maritime future for Curaçao.
