WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government and several private organizations officially launched the “Blue Nation” campaign on Monday, a large-scale island-wide celebration surrounding Curaçao’s historic first participation in a FIFA World Cup.
With concerts, block parties, football activities, cultural events, and youth projects, the island is expected to fully embrace the “Blue Wave” atmosphere at the end of May as national pride builds around the Curaçao national football team.
The main festivities will take place on May 28, 29, and 30 in downtown Willemstad, where both Punda and Otrobanda will be transformed into what organizers described as a “Blue Wave city.”
Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas said during the presentation that the initiative is intended to become more than just a football celebration.
According to Pisas, the campaign is centered on unity, national identity, and collective pride, calling for the island to fully embrace the color blue in support of the national team.
Among the activities planned for May 28 and 29 are block parties, football events across different districts, and various cultural performances throughout the historic city center.
One of the most striking events will be an international fashion show using the Queen Emma Bridge as a catwalk.
A major free concert is also scheduled for May 29 featuring Curaçao artists including Tania Kross, Kevv, and Jeon. Jeon is additionally expected to perform separately again on May 30.
Organizers also announced a flag parade featuring the flags of all 48 participating World Cup nations.
Aqualectra will illuminate sections of Willemstad in blue lighting as part of the campaign, while schools, public buildings, and the airport are expected to display Blue Nation branding and decorations.
Youth-focused projects are also included in the initiative. Football activities for children are being organized alongside a promotional savings campaign centered around “dream soccer cards.”
Curaçao international Tahith Chong symbolically participated Monday in the launch of that campaign.
According to organizers, the Curaçao national team will also receive an official farewell ceremony at the Festival Center shortly before departing for the World Cup.
The campaign is being supported by the Curaçao government, MCB Bank, and organizations from Punda, Otrobanda, Pietermaai, and Scharloo.
Curaçao will make its historic World Cup debut in June and July 2026, facing Germany national football team, Ecuador national football team, and Ivory Coast national football team during the group stage.
