Curaçao International Film Festival Draws Strong Early Interest Ahead of Opening

Local, Entertainment, | By Correspondent April 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao International Film Festival is already attracting large audiences ahead of its official start next week, with several screenings—particularly within the Caribbean Focus program—selling out in advance.

The festival will take place from April 14 to 19 in Curaçao and will feature more than 80 films across 125 screenings. Organizers say the strong early ticket sales reflect growing interest in both international cinema and regional storytelling.

Demand has been especially high for the Caribbean Focus program, which highlights films from across the region. According to organizers, this trend points to increasing appreciation for local and Caribbean narratives among audiences.

The festival will open with the film “The President’s Cake,” followed by a week of screenings, masterclasses, and special events. Among the highlights are a masterclass by Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich and an artist talk with filmmaker Kevin Osepa.

The festival will conclude with an awards ceremony on Saturday, April 18, where prizes will be presented to emerging filmmaking talent from the region and beyond.

CIFF has established itself as a key cultural event on the island, bringing together filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences while showcasing a diverse range of cinematic voices.
