Curaçao Inflation Stands at 1.4 Percent as Consumer Prices Stabilize

Main News, Local, Economy, | By Correspondent October 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Consumer prices in Curaçao remained unchanged in August compared with July, while the island’s annual inflation rate stood at 1.4 percent, according to the latest figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) remained at 106.9 in August 2026, the same level recorded in July. This means that, on average, consumers did not experience an overall increase or decrease in prices between the two months.

The stable monthly figure follows several months of increases earlier this year. CBS data show that the CPI rose from approximately 104.7 in January to 107.0 in June. It then declined by 0.1 percent in July before remaining virtually unchanged in August.

Looking at the longer-term trend, CBS reported that consumer prices during the 12 months through August 2026 were on average 1.4 percent higher than during the corresponding period one year earlier. The 12-month average CPI increased from 104.1 in August 2025 to 105.6 in August 2026.

CBS calculates inflation by comparing the average CPI over a 12-month period with the average for the corresponding 12 months one year earlier. The agency notes that inflation measures the loss of purchasing power caused by rising prices over time and can therefore be used as an indicator when considering adjustments to wages, pensions, social benefits and the minimum wage.

The August figures suggest that inflationary pressure remained relatively contained despite increases in some important household expenses.

CBS published the August figures on October 5.
