WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is hosting the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme (TRRP) Summit this week, bringing together around 60 experts, authorities, and partners from across the Caribbean and beyond to strengthen tsunami preparedness in the region.
The summit officially opened on April 20, 2026, with participation from key international and local organizations focused on disaster risk reduction and early warning systems.

During the opening session, representatives from UNESCO, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Meteorological Service of Curaçao, as well as the governments of the United States and Curaçao, welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of regional cooperation.
The TRRP initiative is aimed at improving early warning systems, public awareness, and emergency response strategies in coastal communities vulnerable to tsunami risks.
Among those present at the opening were Minister Charles Cooper, U.S. Consul General Ramón Negrón, and Dr. Albert Martis of the Meteorological Service of Curaçao.
The summit provides a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, as participating countries work toward enhancing readiness and resilience against natural disasters in the Caribbean.
