WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao will pay vacation allowance to civil servants earlier this year, according to Justice Minister Shalten Hato.
Instead of receiving the payment on June 15, government employees will now receive their vacation allowance during the first week of June.
According to Hato, the decision was made to help ease the impact of the rising cost of living on households.
The minister also announced that civil servants will receive an additional day off on May 15. The extra holiday falls between Ascension Day and the weekend, effectively creating a long weekend for government workers.
The announcement comes at a time when concerns about purchasing power and inflation remain a major issue on the island, with many residents continuing to face higher costs for food, utilities, and other basic necessities.
