Curaçao Government Targets Economic Diversification and Regional Hub Role

Local, Politics, | By Correspondent April 4, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The government is aiming to reshape Curaçao’s economy by expanding beyond traditional sectors and positioning the island as a regional hub for trade, energy, and logistics.

According to the 2025–2029 government program, the economy remains vulnerable due to its narrow base. To address this, the government plans to focus on strategic sectors such as energy services, maritime activities, and high-quality tourism.

The plan also emphasizes the development of digital and logistical infrastructure, with the goal of turning Curaçao into a key node in international trade networks.

Officials argue that a “smarter and broader economy” is essential for long-term resilience, particularly in the face of global economic shocks. The strategy includes strengthening connections within the Caribbean and beyond, while promoting innovation and investment.

The government believes that by modernizing infrastructure and expanding economic activities, Curaçao can secure sustainable growth and reduce its dependence on a limited number of industries.
