Curaçao Government Creates Interministerial Task Force for Youth Development and Education Issues

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has approved the creation of an interministerial task force aimed at tackling developmental, educational, and parenting issues affecting minors through a coordinated national approach.

The decision was taken during the May 13 meeting of the Council of Ministers and falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

According to the government, the new working group will focus on an integrated approach to developmental, learning, and upbringing challenges involving children and young people. The draft national decree establishing the task force will now be submitted to Governor Lucille George-Wout for official approval.

The initiative reflects growing concern within Curaçao about social and educational challenges affecting youth, including school performance, behavioral issues, family support, and access to specialized care services.

By creating an interministerial structure, the government intends to improve cooperation between ministries and institutions dealing with education, youth welfare, public health, and social development.

The move comes amid broader regional discussions in the Caribbean about youth vulnerability, educational inequality, and the long-term social impact of poverty and family instability.
