WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) has allocated more than XCG 37 million in subsidies to 31 social welfare organizations in Curaçao for 2026, with elderly care, youth protection, home care, and emergency shelter among the principal areas receiving financial support.

According to a ministerial decision published in the official government gazette, the Landscourant, the subsidies total XCG 37,184,535.70. The funding covers a maximum period of 12 months, with the decision taking retroactive effect from January 1, 2026.

The allocations provide financial support to organizations delivering essential social services, including residential care for elderly residents, assistance to vulnerable children, services for people with disabilities, crisis accommodation, and community development programs.

Elderly Care Organization Receives Largest Allocation

The largest individual subsidy has been awarded to Stichting voor Ouderenzorg Birgen di Rosario, which will receive XCG 10,004,142 for residential elderly care and day care services.

This allocation alone represents approximately 27 percent of the total amount distributed among the 31 organizations.

The second-largest recipient is Fundashon Guia, Eduká i Forma, which will receive more than XCG 4.6 million to provide residential youth care.

Stichting van het Wit Gele Kruis voor Thuiszorg Prinses Margriet has been allocated nearly XCG 2.8 million for home care and day care services.

Another major recipient is Fundashon pa Stimulá Edukashon i Formashon den Bario (SEFBA), which will receive more than XCG 2.3 million for its activities.

Fundashon Kuido Integral Banda Bou has been awarded more than XCG 1.7 million, while Stichting Maatschappelijke Zorg en Herstel will receive approximately XCG 1.7 million.

Residence Paradise Foundation has been allocated more than XCG 1.5 million for residential elderly care.

Fundashon Perspektiva i Sosten Integral will receive nearly XCG 1.57 million for outpatient youth care services, while Fundashon Nos Kas has been awarded almost XCG 1.5 million for accommodation services.

Financial Support for Vulnerable Children and Families

A significant portion of the subsidies is directed toward organizations supporting children, young people, and families facing difficult circumstances.

Fundashon Tur Mucha Mester Kome will receive XCG 495,000 to provide meals to schoolchildren who need nutritional assistance.

The organization plays a role in supporting children whose families may struggle to provide sufficient food during the school day.

Stichting Meisjestehuis Curaçao has been allocated more than XCG 744,000 for residential youth care.

Stichting New Creation Curaçao will receive nearly XCG 748,000 for youth care and crisis accommodation.

These organizations provide services for young people who require supervision, protection, temporary accommodation, or structured support outside their family environment.

The allocations also include financial assistance for organizations providing emergency shelter.

Fundashon Nos T'ei Pa Otro will receive XCG 515,499 for accommodation and crisis shelter services.

Stichting Nihaila House has been allocated nearly XCG 186,000 for similar purposes.

Such services form part of Curaçao's social safety network, providing assistance to individuals and families who require immediate support or temporary housing.

Subsidies Range From XCG 53,834 to More Than XCG 10 Million

The published allocations reveal considerable differences in the amounts awarded to individual organizations.

While the largest recipient will receive more than XCG 10 million, the smallest subsidy listed is XCG 53,834.

That amount has been awarded to Stichting Karchi 60+ for activities organized for older residents.

The differences reflect the varying types and scales of services provided by the organizations, from residential institutions requiring continuous staffing and facilities to smaller programs offering community-based activities.

The published decision does not provide a detailed assessment of each organization's operating costs or explain how the individual subsidy amounts were calculated.

Government Required to Publish Subsidy Decisions

The allocations were made under Curaçao's Subsidy Decree, which establishes the legal framework for government financial assistance to organizations.

Under the regulations, SOAW is required to periodically publish information about subsidy decisions, including those that have been granted, amended, finalized, or withdrawn.

The newly published overview concerns decisions issued during the preceding six months.

Although the subsidies apply retroactively from January 1, 2026, the announcement does not specify whether all approved amounts have already been disbursed or whether payments will be made in installments.

The publication provides insight into the extent to which Curaçao relies on nongovernmental organizations and foundations to deliver publicly supported social services.

With more than XCG 37 million allocated to 31 organizations, the subsidies represent a substantial government investment in the island's social welfare infrastructure.

The allocations also underscore the importance of financial oversight and accountability, particularly for organizations receiving millions of guilders in public funding.

For the beneficiaries of these programs, the subsidies are intended to support the continuation of services ranging from daily care for elderly residents to meals for schoolchildren and emergency accommodation for people facing difficult circumstances.
