WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has taken another step toward strengthening oversight of the island's aviation sector after the Council of Ministers approved measures related to the implementation of the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority.
According to decisions taken during the June 3 meeting of the Council of Ministers, the government approved both a report and a draft national decree necessary to execute provisions of the National Ordinance on Government Administrative Organization regarding the establishment of the aviation authority.
The draft decree will now be submitted to Governor Lucille George-Wout for formal approval.
The creation of the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority is considered an important development for the island's aviation industry, which continues to grow through increased tourism, international connectivity, and expanding airline operations.
A dedicated aviation authority is expected to strengthen regulatory oversight, safety supervision, certification processes, and compliance with international aviation standards.
The move comes as Curaçao continues efforts to position itself as a regional aviation hub and expand air links with destinations throughout the Caribbean, North America, South America, and Europe.
Government officials have previously emphasized the importance of maintaining internationally recognized aviation standards to support tourism, investment, and economic growth.
Once fully implemented, the authority will play a key role in overseeing civil aviation activities and ensuring that Curaçao remains compliant with requirements established by international aviation organizations.
