Curaçao Foundations Can Apply for Up to $10,000 in New Dutch-Funded Grant Program

Local, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent October 21, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Foundations and nonprofit organizations in Curaçao will have another opportunity to apply for financial assistance through the Legacy to Future Funds program, with grants of up to US$10,000 available to strengthen their organizations and improve their ability to serve local communities.

The new application round will open on November 2, 2026, and remain available until January 12, 2027. The funding forms part of measures introduced by the Netherlands following its formal acknowledgment of the country's historical involvement in slavery and its lasting consequences.

The initiative specifically targets civil society organizations working to address the continuing effects of slavery and colonialism while promoting community development and social empowerment.

The upcoming application period concerns Category 1 of the Legacy to Future Funds program, which focuses on organizational development and professionalization.

Rather than financing only individual activities, this category is intended to help foundations strengthen their internal structures, improve their organizational capabilities, and develop the resources needed to carry out their activities more effectively.

For smaller organizations, access to such funding can be particularly important because limited administrative capacity, financial resources, and organizational infrastructure can make it difficult to develop and implement community projects.

The program seeks to address these challenges by providing financial support that allows eligible organizations to become more sustainable and better equipped to achieve their objectives.

The Legacy to Future Funds initiative has previously offered funding opportunities to organizations throughout the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

In addition to smaller grants for institutional development, the program includes other funding categories designed to support larger projects related to slavery history and its continuing social impact.

The new application round provides another opportunity for Curaçao-based organizations to obtain financial support for strengthening their operations.

An information session will be held on Saturday, October 24, at Het Curaçaosch Museum, where interested organizations can learn more about the application requirements, eligibility criteria, and evaluation procedures.

The session will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the museum's SNIP Gallery.

Representatives involved in administering the fund will be available to answer questions and explain how organizations can prepare their applications.

Both foundations that have previously applied for funding and organizations considering participation for the first time are encouraged to attend.

The new funding opportunity is part of broader efforts to support community organizations and strengthen local initiatives addressing the historical and contemporary consequences of slavery in Curaçao.
