Curaçao Faces Deadline to Secure Long-Term Medicine Supply

Local, Health, | By Correspondent February 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has been given a three-year window to secure structural solutions for the supply of compounded medicines, following a temporary arrangement with the Netherlands .

As of July 1, 2025, Dutch authorities will temporarily allow pharmacies in the Netherlands to supply compounded medicines to Curaçao without requiring full manufacturer licenses. This emergency solution will last three years.

However, Curaçao must develop a long-term solution before 2028.

This issue is critical. Small markets like Curaçao are vulnerable to pharmaceutical shortages, particularly for customized or small-batch medications.

Failure to create structural supply security could leave the island exposed during future crises.
