WILLEMSTAD – On Thursday, July 30, 2026, Curaçao joins the international community in commemorating the International Day Against Human Trafficking, established by the United Nations to raise awareness about human trafficking, honor victims and strengthen global efforts to prevent this serious violation of human rights.
The day also serves as a reminder of the many people who continue to suffer in silence and remain hidden from public view. It highlights the collective responsibility to protect vulnerable individuals and support survivors of human trafficking.
The Prevention of Abuse and Human Trafficking Foundation (PATH), established in 2024, is dedicated to increasing public awareness and promoting cooperation in the fight against human trafficking in Curaçao.
Since 2025, PATH has worked annually with the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) to mark this important occasion by illuminating the Queen Emma Bridge in blue, the internationally recognized color representing awareness of human trafficking. In addition, the PATH flag will be displayed as a visible symbol of solidarity with victims and survivors and as a reminder of the collective efforts to eradicate human trafficking.
The annual commemoration emphasizes the importance of public awareness, cooperation between institutions and community involvement in identifying and preventing human trafficking. Everyone has a role to play in recognizing signs of exploitation and ensuring that victims receive the protection and assistance they need.
