Curaçao Clean Up Launches “Green Wave” Campaign to Turn National Pride Into a Cleaner Island

Local, | By Correspondent July 31, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Clean Up has launched its new “Green Wave” campaign, an initiative aimed at transforming the national pride experienced during the FIFA World Cup into a lasting commitment to a cleaner and healthier island.

The foundation presented the campaign during a launch event on Wednesday evening, highlighting the need for a long-term change in behavior to address Curaçao’s persistent waste problems.

Although previous cleanup campaigns have achieved visible results, illegal dumping and littering remain major challenges in neighborhoods, on beaches and in natural areas. According to Curaçao Clean Up, occasional cleanup actions alone are not enough to solve the problem. A permanent shift in how residents handle waste is needed.

The Green Wave campaign focuses on four practical actions that residents can apply in their daily lives. These include preventing litter, keeping a garbage bag in vehicles, covering loads on trucks to prevent waste from falling onto roads, and maintaining cleanliness around homes and communities.

The organization says the campaign is designed to encourage everyone on the island to take responsibility for their surroundings and contribute to a cleaner Curaçao.

The initiative will lead up to the 14th edition of World Cleanup Day Curaçao, scheduled for September 18 and 19. Curaçao Clean Up is inviting residents, schools, businesses and organizations to participate and become part of the movement.

More information and registration details are available through the campaign’s new website: greenwavecuracao.com.
