WILLEMSTAD – The Meteorological Service of Curaçao marked World Meteorological Day with a successful and engaging event, highlighting both the history and future of meteorology.
Director of the Meteorological Service, Mr. Martis, reflected on the rich history of the field, from the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization to present-day developments. In his remarks, he emphasized the growing importance of innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence, in improving weather forecasting and services.

Minister Charles Cooper expressed appreciation for the staff of the Meteorological Service, commending their dedication and thanking them for their important contributions to the Curaçao community.
A special moment during the event was the contribution of Maria Liberia-Peters, in her role as president of the Dr. Moises Frumencio Da Costa Gomez Foundation. On behalf of the foundation, she presented a telescope as a symbolic gift to the Meteorological Service, honoring and preserving the legacy of Dr. Da Costa Gomez.
The aviation sector was also represented, with a representative of the Aero Club expressing gratitude for the service’s reliable daily information, which plays a crucial role in ensuring flight safety in Curaçao.
In addition, the Meteorological Service used the occasion to launch two new awareness videos. These focus on increasing understanding of services provided to the aviation and maritime sectors, with particular attention to local fishermen.
The event took place in a warm and positive atmosphere and underscored the vital role of meteorological services across multiple sectors in Curaçao.
