WILLEMSTAD – For the first time in history, Curaçao will participate in the world’s largest football tournament: the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. As this event marks a historic milestone for our island, thousands of fans are expected to travel to support our national team during matches hosted in various cities across the three countries. Events of this magnitude require a different level of preparation than a typical vacation.
For this reason, the Ministry of General Affairs and the Directorate of Foreign Relations are sharing important information and practical advice to help all fans traveling to the World Cup prepare properly and enjoy this unforgettable experience without unnecessary concerns.
Prepare Your Travel Documents and Entry Requirements
In addition to your airline ticket, make sure that all documents required to enter the United States are in order before departing from Curaçao:
- Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your date of travel.
- Make sure your ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) has been approved before departure.
- Please note that an ESTA is not a visa, but it is mandatory for travelers entering the United States for tourism or short stays.
- It is recommended that you apply well in advance of your travel date.
If you are traveling with minors, keep in mind that prior authorization from the school administration may be required if the child will miss school days to attend the World Cup. Also remember to complete any necessary travel authorization forms for minors and consult U.S. entry requirements when traveling with children under 17 years of age.
If you plan to travel from the United States to Canada or Mexico, it is advisable to review the entry requirements for each country beforehand.
Purchase Travel Insurance
Travelers are strongly advised to obtain travel insurance covering the entire duration of their trip. Make sure the policy includes emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, potential medical evacuation, and repatriation in the event of death.
If you already have worldwide travel insurance, verify that it covers all destinations you intend to visit during your trip. Keep in mind that medical treatment in the United States, Canada, and Mexico is not free, and healthcare expenses can be very high.
