WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao-born artist and sculptor Giovanni Abath has achieved a historic milestone for the island after being selected as one of six artists worldwide to participate in Royal Caribbean’s Artist Discovery Program aboard its newest cruise ship, Legend of the Seas.
Born in Curaçao. Created in Curaçao. Installed in Finland. Now sailing the world.

With this achievement, Abath becomes the first Curaçaoan sculptor to receive international recognition through Royal Caribbean’s prestigious art program. His selection represents not only a major accomplishment in his artistic career but also a moment of pride for Curaçao and Caribbean art.
Abath’s artwork, titled “The Colors Behind the Flowers,” will be displayed in one of the ship’s most prominent locations: the entrance of the Royal Promenade.
Legend of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s newest vessel and is considered one of the largest and most luxurious cruise ships in the world. The inclusion of Abath’s work places Curaçaoan art on an international platform, reaching visitors from around the globe.
The Artist Discovery Program highlights emerging and established artists by showcasing unique works of art aboard Royal Caribbean’s ships. Through this initiative, the cruise line seeks to bring diverse artistic perspectives and cultural stories to an international audience.
For Abath, the journey of his artwork reflects the connection between Curaçao’s creativity and the wider world. His sculpture began its story on the island, was produced and prepared for installation in Finland, and will now travel across international waters aboard Legend of the Seas.
The achievement marks another important recognition of Curaçao’s artistic talent and the island’s growing presence in international cultural spaces.
