Curaçao Announces November 21 Elections for Public Transportation Sector Representatives

Local, | By Press release October 20, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Government of Curaçao has announced that elections for representatives of the public transportation sector will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2026, allowing public transportation permit holders to elect representatives to the committees responsible for addressing matters affecting the sector.

The Traffic and Transportation Service (UOVV), in cooperation with the Civil Registry Department (Kranshi), confirmed that preparations for the elections have begun.

The Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP) and UOVV are calling on all eligible public transportation permit holders to familiarize themselves with the election procedures and important deadlines.

Representation in Public Transportation Discussions

The Public Transportation Committees provide a platform through which representatives of permit holders can contribute their perspectives and practical experience to discussions concerning public transportation in Curaçao.

The committees are intended to ensure that the sector has a voice in consultations on issues that directly affect public transportation operators.

Through elected representatives, permit holders can participate in discussions and contribute to the consideration of matters affecting the sector.

The election process is governed by the Island Ordinance on Passenger Transportation (A.B. 1969, No. 23, with the applicable text published in A.B. 1992, No. 7) and the Island Decree on Passenger Transportation (A.B. 1969, No. 51).

Article 14 of the ordinance regulates the composition of the committees, while Article 5 of the island decree establishes the rules concerning meetings, nominations and voting by permit holders.

Important Election Dates

According to the official announcement, the election process will follow a schedule beginning later this month.

On Monday, October 26, the government will publish the official notice inviting eligible candidates to submit their nominations.

Candidates will have until Wednesday, November 18, at 4:00 p.m. to submit their nominations.

Voting will take place on Saturday, November 21, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The election results are scheduled to be published on Monday, November 23.

The official notice will provide further information about candidate eligibility, voting rights and the procedures that must be followed.

Candidates Responsible for Their Own Campaigns

The government has emphasized that candidates will be responsible for presenting themselves to eligible permit holders and seeking support for their candidacies.

This means that individuals wishing to serve as representatives must conduct their own campaigns and communicate directly with members of the public transportation sector.

UOVV has also stressed that all official communications concerning the elections will remain neutral and impartial.

The authorities will provide information about the election process without promoting or favoring individual candidates.

Permit Holders Urged to Participate

The Ministry of VVRP and UOVV are encouraging public transportation permit holders to pay close attention to the announced dates and follow subsequent official communications.

The election provides an opportunity for the sector to select individuals who will represent permit holders in discussions concerning public transportation.

Additional details about the nomination process, eligibility requirements and voting arrangements will be included in the official notice scheduled for publication on October 26.

With the elections set for November 21, eligible permit holders are being urged to prepare for the process and participate in selecting their representatives.
