WILLEMSTAD – The Culture and Sports Sector of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (ESKD) has announced the calendar of cultural and commemorative activities scheduled for the final months of 2026.
The ministry is inviting the people of Curaçao to take note of the upcoming events and participate in activities that celebrate the island’s history, identity and cultural heritage.
The 2026 calendar includes the following events:
August 17 – Day of the Struggle for Freedom
A commemorative event will take place at the Parke Lucha pa Libertat starting at 5:00 p.m., honoring Tula and his fellow freedom fighters.
September 27 to October 4 – Culture Week 2026
Under the theme “From Curaçao to the World,” Culture Week will highlight how Curaçao’s culture, talent and identity extend beyond the island’s borders and contribute to the wider world.
October 3 – Commemoration of the Massacre of the Freedom Fighters
A day dedicated to remembering and honoring the sacrifices of Tula and his companions, the heroes of 1795, in their struggle for freedom.
October 10 – Curaçao Day
This year’s theme, “The Caribbean That Unites Us,” will focus on the historical, cultural and future connections between Curaçao and the Caribbean region.
November 15 to 22 – Ka’i Òrgel Week
A series of activities will be organized to promote and preserve the unique Curaçao tradition of Ka’i Òrgel.
December 15 – Autonomy Day / Dr. Moises Frumencio da Costa Gomez Day
A commemoration honoring the legacy of Dr. Moises Frumencio da Costa Gomez and his contribution to Curaçao.
December 31 – Ban Tende Tiru den Union at Brion Square
A cultural gathering to close the year in unity and togetherness.
The Culture and Sports Sector is encouraging organizations and residents to mark these dates on their calendars and actively participate in the activities.
“Together we continue to strengthen our identity and our cultural heritage,” the ministry stated.
