Curaçao and Dutch Parliamentarians Discuss Kingdom Relations Ahead of January 2027 IPKO Meeting

Local, The Netherlands, | By Correspondent October 23, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Members of the Curaçao Parliament met informally with a delegation from the Dutch House of Representatives on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, to exchange views on relations within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and other matters of mutual interest.

The meeting brought together members of Curaçao Parliament's Committee for Kingdom Affairs, Interparliamentary Relations and External Relations and representatives of the Kingdom Affairs Committee of the Dutch House of Representatives, known as the Tweede Kamer.

The Dutch delegation is visiting Aruba, Curaçao, and Bonaire from October 19 to 23 as part of a working and familiarization visit following changes in the committee's membership after the elections in the Netherlands.

The delegation began its visit in Aruba before traveling to Curaçao and is scheduled to conclude its Caribbean tour in Bonaire.

During their stay in Curaçao, the Dutch parliamentarians took the opportunity to meet with their counterparts and strengthen direct communication between the two parliamentary committees.

According to the Curaçao Parliament, the informal meeting provided an opportunity for dialogue and an exchange of perspectives on relations within the Kingdom, as well as other issues of common concern.

The visit comes at a time when cooperation between the Netherlands and the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom remains an important subject of parliamentary discussions, particularly regarding constitutional relations, governance, and shared responsibilities.

Although the meeting was informal, such exchanges allow parliamentarians to become better acquainted with developments in the different countries and territories of the Kingdom and to maintain direct contact outside formal parliamentary conferences.

The discussions also served as an opportunity for the newly constituted Dutch committee to become more familiar with Curaçao and its parliamentary representatives.

The next official gathering of parliamentarians from the countries of the Kingdom will take place during the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation, known by its Dutch abbreviation IPKO.

That meeting is scheduled for January 2027 in Sint Maarten.

IPKO brings together parliamentary delegations from Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten, and the Netherlands to discuss matters affecting the Kingdom and strengthen cooperation between their respective legislatures.

The Curaçao Parliament did not disclose whether any specific agreements or commitments resulted from Wednesday's informal meeting.
