SANTO DOMINGO – Curaçao is taking new steps to strengthen its economic relationship with the Dominican Republic as Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof begins discussions aimed at expanding trade, investment, and commercial cooperation between the two countries.
Middelhof recently traveled to the Dominican Republic, where he paid a visit to the Ministry of Finance and Economy. The meeting marked the first phase of efforts to deepen economic relations and identify new opportunities for collaboration between Curaçao and one of the Caribbean’s largest economies.
According to information released by the Ministry of Economic Development, discussions focused on several key areas, including free zones, tourism, import and export activities, and broader commercial cooperation. The talks explored ways in which both countries can benefit from increased trade and stronger business connections.
The Dominican Republic has emerged as one of the region’s most dynamic economies, with a growing manufacturing sector, expanding tourism industry, and strategically located free trade zones that serve international markets. Curaçao has increasingly sought to strengthen regional partnerships as part of its strategy to diversify economic opportunities and expand access to new markets.
The discussions are expected to serve as a foundation for future cooperation between government agencies and the private sectors of both countries. Officials are examining how existing trade links can be expanded and how new business opportunities can be created for entrepreneurs and investors on both sides.
