Curaçao and Aruba Explore Stronger Cooperation on Shared Challenges

WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas recently received Aruba's Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labor, Wendrick Cicilia, for a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two neighboring islands.

During the meeting, the officials discussed a range of issues of mutual interest to Curaçao and Aruba, including tourism, fisheries, waste management and opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas that contribute to economic development and public welfare.

According to the government, the discussions focused on identifying ways both islands can work more closely together to address common challenges and take advantage of opportunities that benefit their respective populations.

Tourism, one of the main pillars of both economies, featured prominently in the talks. The leaders also exchanged views on the importance of sustainable management of natural resources, including the fishing sector, as well as solutions to waste management challenges that affect both islands.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of continued cooperation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Both parties emphasized that closer collaboration can help Curaçao and Aruba better address regional and international challenges while promoting economic growth and social development.

The visit took place in what was described as a constructive and cordial atmosphere, with a strong focus on dialogue, mutual understanding and ongoing partnership between the two countries.

The meeting reflects the growing emphasis on regional cooperation among the Dutch Caribbean islands as they seek joint solutions to shared economic, environmental and social issues.
