CRIB Tax Number Required for Vehicle Registration and Ownership Transfers

Local, | By Correspondent July 2, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Traffic and Transport Department (UOVV) is reminding the public that a CRIB number is now mandatory for the registration of new motor vehicles and for the transfer of vehicle ownership.

The CRIB number is the official tax identification number assigned by the Curaçao Tax Office (Belastingdienst) to both individuals and businesses. It is used for tax administration and is now a required part of the vehicle registration process.

According to UOVV, anyone wishing to register a newly imported vehicle or transfer ownership of an existing vehicle must have a valid CRIB number.

Individuals or companies that do not yet have a CRIB number can apply for one through the Curaçao Tax Office's website before starting the registration or ownership transfer process.

The department stressed that it will not be possible to register a vehicle or transfer ownership without a valid CRIB number and advises customers to obtain one in advance to avoid delays when completing their transaction.
