WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) has recognized the winners of the FCCA Caribbean Children’s Essay & Environmental Poster Competition 2025, a regional initiative aimed at increasing environmental awareness among young people across the Caribbean.

In September 2025, CPA invited several local schools to participate in the competition, which was organized by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA). The theme of this year’s competition was: “How to Protect the Marine Environment from Land-Based Activities.”

Through the competition, FCCA aims to encourage students throughout the Caribbean to better understand the importance of protecting and preserving the natural environment, particularly marine ecosystems.

The poster competition was divided into three categories: a junior category for students up to 12 years old, a senior category for students between 13 and 16 years old, and a local winners category.

The local winners in each category received a prize of USD 200 from FCCA.

Three Curaçao students were selected as local winners. Two of them, Mae-Jehni Neslo and Rafael Felis, are students at Juan Pablo Duarte VSBO. The third winner, Elienne Schmidt, is a student at Kolegio Chaya Willems.

CPA congratulated all winners for their outstanding achievements and praised their creativity and commitment to raising awareness about the protection of Curaçao’s marine environment.
