WILLEMSTAD – On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the Council of Ministers of Curaçao received a visit from Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations for Trinidad & Tobago, Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten, along with her delegation.
The visit included a presentation and a strategic dialogue focused on the cooperation framework between the United Nations and Curaçao, as well as the activities of UN representatives currently active on the island. A key objective of the meeting was to identify Curaçao’s national priorities and explore how the United Nations and its agencies can contribute to achieving these goals.

During the presentation, several ongoing initiatives were highlighted in areas such as healthcare, education, the use of artificial intelligence, equality, and migration. Kazana-Wisniowiecki noted that Curaçao stands out as a country that takes education and healthcare seriously and has a solid system for border management and security.
She also congratulated Minister of Justice Shalten Hato and Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare Charetti America-Francisca on the launch of the “Rib’e Lugá” initiative and the accompanying press conference, which provided important information on the registration and legalization process for undocumented individuals.
Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas highlighted the policy program of the Pisas III Cabinet and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that Curaçao will prioritize within the framework of the 2030 Agenda. These include efforts to combat extreme poverty, inequality, injustice, and climate change.
In closing, Kazana-Wisniowiecki emphasized the various opportunities available for Curaçao to benefit from the expertise within the United Nations system and its specialized agencies.
The delegation also included Tracey Hutchinson, Head of the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office; Christelle Parris-McKay, Data Management Officer; Mark Thomas, Partnerships and Development Finance Officer; and Karen Wouters, Project Coordinator for Curaçao at the International Organization for Migration.
