WILLEMSTAD – The Council of Ministers of Curaçao received a working visit on April 15 from Eric van der Burg and his delegation, with discussions focusing on cooperation within the Kingdom and key policy priorities.
During the meeting, attention was given to the continuation of the country packages and the transition into their final phase. Officials emphasized the shift from planning to implementation, highlighting the need to achieve tangible results. Curaçao underscored the importance of making clear choices based on the government’s available implementation capacity.
The discussions also stressed the importance of continued cooperation based on equality and national responsibility, with a focus on strengthening governmental and economic resilience.
Geopolitical developments and their impact on global prices were also addressed, particularly in relation to their effects on the local community. In this context, the need for structural investments in food security and the agricultural sector was discussed, along with innovative solutions such as hydroponics to improve self-sufficiency.
Economic developments were another key topic. Participants noted that growth in tourism continues to provide a positive boost to the economy. At the same time, it was emphasized that economic growth must go hand in hand with strengthening the social foundation and ensuring the proper functioning of public services.
The meeting also covered available Kingdom funds, including resources for projects related to food supply and social development. In addition, it was confirmed that initiatives and funding related to the history of slavery will continue, with a focus on responsible and efficient use.
The Dutch delegation included representatives from the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, as well as officials from the Representation of the Netherlands in Willemstad.
The visit forms part of a broader regional tour, with the delegation scheduled to continue its program in Bonaire.
