WILLEMSTAD – Corendon does not expect its new direct flight connection between Düsseldorf and Curaçao to affect demand for its existing services from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The travel company made the announcement during the official presentation of the new route, which is set to launch later this year.
Beginning December 14, Corendon will operate three weekly nonstop flights between Düsseldorf and Curaçao using an Airbus A330-300 operated by Spanish carrier World2Fly.
According to the company, approximately 15,000 German tourists already travel to Curaçao each year via Schiphol. The new route is intended to make the island more accessible not only for travelers from Germany but also for passengers from neighboring regions in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Growing German Market
Corendon Commercial Director Martin de Boer said Curaçao has been one of the company's most popular Caribbean destinations for years and that demand from the German market continues to grow.
The company sees significant potential in offering German travelers a direct connection to the island rather than requiring them to transit through Amsterdam.
Industry figures have shown increasing interest among German tourists in Caribbean destinations, and Corendon believes the new route will help Curaçao attract a larger share of that market.
Additional Capacity for Curaçao
Despite the introduction of the Düsseldorf service, Corendon emphasized that its existing operation from Schiphol will remain unchanged.
During the winter season, the airline will continue operating five weekly flights between Amsterdam and Curaçao. The new Düsseldorf connection will be added on top of those services, increasing the total number of seats available to the island.
Company officials described the route as an expansion rather than a replacement of existing capacity.
The move is expected to further strengthen Curaçao’s air connectivity with Europe at a time when the island continues to experience growth in tourism arrivals and increasing demand from international visitors.
Boost for Tourism Sector
The addition of a direct German connection is expected to benefit Curaçao’s tourism industry by opening the destination to a larger market of European travelers.
Germany is one of Europe’s largest outbound travel markets, and tourism stakeholders have long identified the country as a source of potential growth for the island.
With the launch of the Düsseldorf route, Curaçao will gain another direct gateway into continental Europe, complementing existing connections from the Netherlands and helping diversify its visitor base.
The first flight is scheduled to depart on December 14, marking the beginning of what Corendon hopes will become a successful new chapter in Curaçao’s tourism development.
