Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort Curaçao Receives Green Key Certification

Local, Tourism, | By Press release August 10, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort Curaçao has received the internationally recognized Green Key certification this week. Green Key is a globally recognized eco-label for hotels and other hospitality establishments that demonstrate excellence in sustainability and environmental management.

To qualify for the certification, a property must meet strict international standards in areas such as energy and water consumption, waste management, recycling, and sustainable business practices. Compliance with these standards is verified through regular independent audits.

Biray Ogut, Director of Hotels at Corendon, is proud of the achievement. “We are extremely proud that Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort is now Green Key certified. Our Green Key team in Curaçao has worked with great dedication over the past months to achieve this recognition. At Corendon, we remain committed to investing in sustainability and creating a better environment for both current and future generations.”

As part of the certification process, the resort has implemented a range of sustainability measures in recent months. The use of single-use plastic water bottles has been completely eliminated, preventing approximately 50,000 plastic bottles per month from ending up in landfill. Guests now receive a reusable water bottle featuring a Curaçao-inspired design upon check-in, which they can take home as a souvenir after their stay. As part of this initiative, Corendon Curaçao has also joined the “Join the Pipe” program, a sustainability initiative focused on reducing plastic waste and promoting access to clean drinking water. Guests of the resort can refill their reusable water bottles 24 hours a day at the various refill stations located throughout the resort.

In addition, treated wastewater is reused for irrigating the resort’s gardens and landscaped areas. Organic kitchen waste is provided to a local livestock farmer for reuse as animal feed. The resort has also replaced its lighting with energy-efficient LED fixtures and installed solar panels on its rooftops to further reduce energy consumption.

Through these initiatives, Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort continues to take meaningful steps toward responsible business operations. Efficient use of natural resources, waste reduction, energy conservation, and recycling are key pillars of the resort’s sustainability strategy.

Green Key operates in more than 90 countries and has over 9,000 certified establishments worldwide. Allready all three Corendon-hotels in Amsterdam are Green Key-certified. Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort Curaçao is the latest addition to this international network of sustainable hotels, reinforcing the resort’s commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable hospitality.
