WILLEMSTAD – Travel company Corendon will begin operating direct flights between Düsseldorf Airport and Curaçao later this year, further expanding air connectivity between the island and the European market.
The new route will operate three times per week — on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays — starting December 14, according to hospitality association CHATA.
Flights will be carried out using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft with capacity for 388 passengers. Unlike the current Corendon flights departing from Amsterdam, the Düsseldorf route will also offer Business Class service.
CHATA emphasized that the expansion into the German market will not affect Corendon’s existing flight schedule from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
According to Corendon, the new route responds to a growing trend in which Dutch travelers increasingly choose German airports because of easier accessibility and lower travel costs. The company expects to transport more than 1.2 million travelers through German airports this year.
Germany has been an important market for Curaçao’s tourism industry for many years. The new connection from Düsseldorf is also expected to benefit travelers from Belgium and the Dutch-German border region.
According to CHATA, previous flight connections from Germany demonstrated strong demand for direct travel between Germany and Curaçao.
More details about the new route are expected to be announced during a press conference scheduled for Friday, May 29.
