WILLEMSTAD – Corendon Dutch Airlines has deployed a specially branded aircraft to transport Curaçao’s national football team, staff, and thousands of supporters to the FIFA World Cup in the United States.
The Boeing 737 MAX 9 arrived on the island this weekend and will play a key role in the air bridge connecting Curaçao with the various World Cup host cities over the coming weeks.

Although the aircraft does not officially carry the name “Blue Wave,” it has been customized to celebrate Curaçao’s historic World Cup participation. Near the aircraft’s entrance is an image of the Blue Wave, the nickname of Curaçao’s national football team, along with the slogan “One Island, One Dream,” a tribute to the country’s unprecedented achievement of reaching football’s biggest stage.
Supporting Curaçao’s World Cup Campaign
According to Corendon, the aircraft will be used for a series of charter operations during the tournament. One of its primary tasks will be transporting the Curaçao national team to the United States, where the Blue Wave will compete in Group Stage matches against Germany, Ecuador, and Ivory Coast.
The airline will also use the aircraft to transport supporters eager to witness the island’s historic World Cup debut.
The first flight is scheduled to operate to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Additional flights will connect Curaçao with Houston, Kansas City, and Philadelphia, the cities where Curaçao is expected to play during the tournament.
Should Curaçao advance beyond the group stage, Corendon has indicated that additional charter flights could be organized to support fans traveling to knockout-round matches.
More Than 2,300 Supporters Expected
The Boeing 737 MAX 9, registered as PH-CQD, can accommodate 213 passengers and is expected to carry a significant portion of the traveling fan base.
Corendon has scheduled multiple charter flights between Curaçao and the World Cup host cities. In addition, the airline is deploying a larger Airbus A350 on the Curaçao-Houston route. That aircraft can carry up to 432 passengers.
According to the airline, the special World Cup operation is expected to transport more than 2,300 supporters to the United States throughout the tournament.
Beyond the organized charter program, many Curaçao residents are also making independent travel arrangements to support the national team during its first-ever World Cup appearance.
Symbol of a Historic Achievement
The specially branded aircraft arrived on Curaçao from Amsterdam and made a refueling stop on Terceira in the Azores before completing its journey to the island.
Over the coming weeks, the aircraft is expected to become a highly visible symbol of one of the most significant moments in Curaçao’s sporting history.
With World Cup fever sweeping across the island, the arrival of the Blue Wave-themed aircraft serves as another reminder that a dream once considered impossible has become reality.
As the national team prepares to take on Germany in its World Cup opener on June 14, thousands of supporters will soon be following them across the Atlantic aboard an aircraft carrying the hopes and pride of an entire nation.
