WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Telecommunications Charles Cooper held talks with Digicel Business Group representative Mark Shoebridge during the CANTO 2026 conference, focusing on Curaçao’s future digital infrastructure, regional connectivity and opportunities for further investment in the telecommunications sector.
The meeting formed part of Cooper’s participation in CANTO, one of the Caribbean’s leading annual gatherings for telecommunications, technology and digital development.
During the discussion, Cooper and Shoebridge addressed the development of Curaçao’s digital infrastructure and the importance of strengthening the island’s connections with the wider Caribbean and international networks.
They also discussed the role that investment and cooperation with telecommunications providers can play in supporting Curaçao’s ambitions to expand its digital economy.
Digicel owns Deep Blue, a subsea fiber-optic network designed to improve connectivity across the Caribbean. Digicel Business provides telecommunications and technology solutions to companies and organizations.
According to Cooper, partnerships with telecommunications companies and infrastructure providers are important as Curaçao seeks to position itself more prominently within the international digital economy.
The minister has used his participation at CANTO 2026 to hold several discussions on connectivity, telecommunications regulation and technological development. His meetings have also focused on how Curaçao can attract infrastructure investment while improving the availability and resilience of digital services.
Cooper considers the digital economy an increasingly important component of Curaçao’s future economic development. Improved international and regional connectivity could support sectors including data services, technology companies and other businesses that depend on reliable high-capacity telecommunications infrastructure.
The government says continued cooperation with telecommunications providers such as Digicel can help strengthen Curaçao’s connectivity and create the infrastructure needed to support further growth of the island’s digital economy.
